We should have an article on every pyramid and every nome in Ancient Egypt. I'm sure the rest of us can think of other articles we should have.
To start with, most of the general history articles badly need attention. And I'm told that at least some of the dynasty articles need work. Any other candidates?
A boring task, but the benefit of doing it is that you can set the dates !(e.g., why say Khufu lived 2589-2566? As long as you keep the length of his reign correct, or cite a respected source, you can date it 2590-2567 or 2585-2563)
Anyone? I consider this probably the most unimportant of tasks on Wikipedia, but if you believe it needs to be done . . .
This is a project I'd like to take on some day, & could be applied to more of Wikipedia than just Ancient Egypt. Take one of the standard authorities of history or culture -- Herotodus, the Elder Pliny, the writings of Breasted or Kenneth Kitchen, & see if you can't smoothly merge quotations or information into relevant articles. Probably a good exercise for someone who owns one of those impressive texts, yet can't get access to a research library. |

Prussian Hieroglyphes
[edit]
I noticed this interesting work, that contains in its edges hieroglyphes (most of them Egyptian, few are Prussian symbols). I tried to read them, with no success to identify known words. for example, in the top line: 𓐍𓄿𓃀𓏏𓂝𓈖𓂝𓏭𓅱 𓌣𓌣?𓏭𓏏𓐝𓀨𓇋𓈎𓃀𓂝𓂋 x𓋴𓅱𓇌𓋴𓊪𓃭𓂝𓋹𓏙 𓍸prussia𓈊𓆷/𓋳𓈖𓇳𓍻 𓆥𓈖𓏏𓂻𓏦𓋴... Can anyone clarify whether there is a text in these hieroglyphes or they are just random signs for decoration? פעמי-עליון (pʿmy-ʿlywn) - talk 11:59, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
- I can barely read hieros but I can tell you that the top and sides include the names of Frederick William IV (written as "wylHilmu" in hieroglyphs) and his wife Elizabeth ("ilysAbiTt") and seems to give the king part of a royal titulary like an Egyptian king. Khufu and Merenptah are named down the bottom, along with a lot of numbers (possibly years elapsed). Merytat3n (talk) 09:41, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- I see that now, that's fascinating. Thank you! פעמי-עליון (pʿmy-ʿlywn) - talk 14:15, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Labyrinth of Egypt
[edit]I noticed these edits being added to the Labyrinth of Egypt. They all seem to be sourced to self-published blogs, essays, etc., or really low-quality websites; I can't find any high-quality, peer-reviewed sources that back up these claims, and even some of the supposedly "published" research (e.g., the "NRIAG scientific journal" publication, which I believe is just a reference to a 2008 report) doesn't say anything about an amazing new discovery or anything. Any thoughts?--Gen. Quon[Talk] 20:09, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- It's been a while since I saw a web page with as many conspiracy-theory hallmarks as that Substack post. I'm not especially knowledgeable about Hawara, but none of the sources cited in those edits seem to be affiliated with anything reliable, and my only post-2008 source that covers the complex, the 2020 revised edition of Miroslav Verner's The Pyramids, doesn't mention any discoveries made in 2008. - "Conspiracy-theory hallmarks" is a great way to describe it. I was getting a lot of 'alternative archaeology' vibes from the whole thing. That said, I didn't want to redact a bunch of legit info that was just poorly sourced, but upon a look through even more research, it seems that this is largely a fringe claim.--Gen. - It’s all bull. Sources I found are all fringe. Eg [1]. Doug Weller talk 19:24, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- I’m off to bed. They need a strong warning but not from me tonight Some was copyvio and they’ve been warned about that. I’ll look at them tomorrow. Doug Weller talk 19:29, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
