See Wikipedia:Categories for deletion policies for the official rules of this page, and how to do cleanup.
Deletion of a category may mean that the articles and images in it are directly put in its parent category, or that another subdivision of the parent category is made. If they are already members of more suitable categories, it may also mean that they become a member of one category less.
How to use this page
[edit]- Know if the category you are looking at needs deleting (or to be created). If it is a "red link" and has no articles or subcategories, then it is already deleted (more likely, it was never really created in the first place), and does not need to be listed here.
- Read and understand Wikipedia:Categorization before using this page. Nominate categories that violate policies here, or are misspelled, mis-capitalized, redundant/need to be merged, not NPOV, small without potential for growth, or are generally bad ideas. (See also Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Manual of Style.)
- Please read the Wikipedia:Categorization of people policy if nominating or voting on a people-related category.
- Unless the category to be deleted is non-controversial – vandalism or a duplicate, for example – please do not depopulate the category (remove the tags from articles) before the community has made a decision.
- Add {{cfd}} to the category page for deletion. (If you are recommending that the category be renamed, you may also add a note giving the suggested new name.) This will add a message to it, and also put the page you are nominating into Category:Categories for deletion. It's important to do this to help alert people who are watching or browsing the category.
- Alternately, use the rename template like this: {{cfr|newname}}
- If you are concerned with a stub category, make sure to inform the WikiProject Stub sorting
- Add new deletion candidates under the appropriate day near the top of this page.
- Alternatively, if the category is a candidate for speedy renaming (see Wikipedia:Category renaming), add it to the speedy category at the bottom.
- Make sure you add a colon (:) in the link to the category being listed, like [[:Category:Foo]]. This makes the category link a hard link which can be seen on the page (and avoids putting this page into the category you are nominating).
- Sign any listing or vote you make by typing ~~~~ after your text.
- Link both categories to delete and categories to merge into. Failure to do this will delay consideration of your suggestion.
Special notes
[edit]Some categories may be listed in Category:Categories for deletion but accidently not listed here.

April 24
[edit]NEW NOMINATIONS
[edit]Category:Evangelical Christian fundamentalists
[edit]- Propose merging Category:Evangelical Christian fundamentalists to Category:Christian fundamentalists
- Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary subcategory as these are fundamentally the same thing; WP:OVERLAPCAT ButlerBlog (talk) 12:15, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Category:Events by city
[edit]- Propose renaming Category:Events by city to Category:Organized events by city
- Nominator's rationale: rename and re-parent, with very few exceptions this is all about organized events. After renaming the category can be moved under Category:Organized events by location. SubCategory:Disasters by city should be purged after the rename as these are not organized events. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:08, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Category:Maldivian people by occupation and century
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: Upmerge for now. only one occupation in here SMasonGarrison 04:41, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:39, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Hot Springs, Arkansas in fiction (1 C) to Category:Culture of Hot Springs, Arkansas
- Propose merging Category:Burbank, California in fiction (1 C) to Category:Culture of Burbank, California
- Propose merging Category:Fresno, California in fiction (1 C) to Category:Culture of Fresno, California
- Propose merging Category:Oakland, California in fiction (1 C) to Category:Culture of Oakland, California
- Propose merging Category:Palm Springs, California in fiction (1 C) to Category:Culture of Palm Springs, California
- Propose merging Category:San Jose, California in fiction (1 C) to Category:Culture of San Jose, California
- Propose merging Category:Salinas, California in fiction (1 C) to Category:Salinas, California
- Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory each. The merge targets are open for discussion too: "culture of" happens to be the parent categories, but maybe not the best. Alternatively we may merge e.g. to Category:Birmingham, Alabama instead of to Category:Culture of Birmingham, Alabama. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:15, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Category:People from Chastre
[edit]- Propose merging Category:People from Chastre to Category:People from Walloon Brabant
- Nominator's rationale: Only 1 entry.
Also proposing to merge to same target Category:People from Walloon Brabant:
- Category:People from Chaumont-Gistoux
- Category:People from Ittre
- Category:People from Perwez
- Category:People from Walhain. LibStar (talk) 04:00, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Category:KLM Cityhopper accidents and incidents
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: Single category member, no additional pages to categorize. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 03:09, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per nom, maybe dual merge also to Category:KLM Cityhopper, or if not then the latter may be upmerged too. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:56, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

Category:Japan protected area stubs
[edit]- Propose renaming Category:Japan protected area stubs to Category:Japanese protected area stubs
- Nominator's rationale: To match the "Fooian" naming scheme (see Category:Indian protected area stubs as an example) - OpalYosutebito 『talk』 『articles I want to eat』 02:14, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Rename per nom. In other continents the "Fooian" format is used too. Marcocapelle (talk) 03:59, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Category:Jewish American state legislators
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: The naming is just a bit confusing on the parent category, because it can be read as American describing the individual or the state. The real problem is in the subcategories, "Jewish American state legislators in Maine", as if some state legislators in Maine might not be American, which seems at least rather unlikely. Those should just be "Jewish state legislators in Maine". Nat Gertler (talk) 00:48, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- If renamed then to Category:Jewish state legislators in the United States. But if the real problem is in the subcategories then those should be nominated. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:03, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Category:African return diaspora
[edit]- Propose merging Category:African return diaspora to Category:Return diasporas and Category:African diaspora
- Propose merging Category:African secondary diaspora to Category:African diaspora
- Propose merging Category:Indian secondary diaspora to Category:Indian diaspora
- Nominator's rationale: There's no need to isolate these secondary diasporas SMasonGarrison 04:14, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
Merge, redundant category layer with only two subcategories each.Marcocapelle (talk) 05:36, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- Noticing I have almost duplicated my comment below. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:16, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Keep these categories are useful. GreekApple123 (talk) 15:26, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- How are they useful? @GreekApple123 I see them as adding extra layers which isolates these diasporas. SMasonGarrison 00:51, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Upon reflection, I think Category:African return diaspora (having only 1 subcategory) might not have enough content to be needed at the moment. Maybe that can be recreated in the future when there is more content to fill it. But the other two categories feel reasonable; secondary diasporas are distinct from "primary" diasporas in terms of being a lot more distant from their ancestral country, and I think it's helpful for readers to be able to quickly find that phenomenon while still being linked to it from the main diaspora's category. GreekApple123 (talk) 21:15, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- But the secondary diaspora just makes it harder to find. Like is there a specific distance here? Because it doesn't seem to me that distance from the homeland of the diaspora is a defining feature, like why is African American secondary, but Black Britain is not?SMasonGarrison 00:36, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Regarding your example of comparing African American and Black British, you have not noticed the exact characteristics of those diasporas. African-Americans are the diaspora formed by Africans directly ending up in America, so that is a "primary" diaspora (only one migratory stage). Note that the term "African-American diaspora" is used in Wikipedia to refer to the diaspora of African-Americans i.e. the African-Americans who have migrated out of America; this forms a secondary diaspora in relation to Africa, and so Category:African-American diaspora is under Category:African secondary diaspora, while Category:African-American society (which is for African-Americans) is not. The "Black Britain" page you mentioned is actually named "British African-Caribbean people", and they trace their immediate migratory heritage to the Caribbean, and only before that to Africa. That is what makes them a secondary diaspora (two stages of migration). Note that there is a separate page for the general African diaspora in Britain (I believe it covers both primary and secondary) at Black British people. Also, if you are looking for more understanding on how the secondary diaspora concept is already covered in other parts of Wikipedia, see Template:African diaspora.
- A compromise I thought of would be to maintain the secondary diaspora categories as they are, but simultaneously categorize all of their articles under the primary diaspora category. I think that would be helpful for those who want to navigate Category:Secondary diasporas while making the content maximally visible for those navigating under the primary diasporas.
- I believe in the value of having categorization for secondary diasporas, as there will be more of them in the future as migration continues, and they will have characteristics that do not exactly match up with those of "primary" diasporas; their characteristics will be determined by both their initial homeland and the second place they settled in, and therefore there is more analysis required to cover them (and therefore more categorization). Also, when articles are written about "tertiary" diasporas (three stages of migration), I would like to add the requisite categorization for that phenomenon, presumably by nesting that underneath secondary diasporas. But I can't do that if you delete all categorization relating to secondary diasporas. GreekApple123 (talk) 00:51, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

- Merge for now, because of insufficient content. I would not object to recreation of the secondarg diaspora category when more articles about secondary diaspora are written (an overview article about the topic to begin with, and possibly more country articles). - Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Consensus currently favors merging Category:African return diaspora, but more participation is needed to form consensus regarding the other two nominated categories.

Category:NBA championship–winning players
[edit]- Nominator's rationale: Multiple discussions have found that this is a non-defining intersection. See Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2021_January_18#Category:Super_Bowl_champions for one discussion circa 2021. User:Namiba 19:08, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
- Comment I kind of disagree that being a Super Bowl champ isn't defining. I was on a wikibreak when that cat got Cfded but I probably would have !voted to keep it. It's always mentioned in obituaries and stuff if someone was a Super Bowl champ, likewise for NBA champ. It looks like you actually !voted to keep the Super Bowl cat too. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 20:16, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
